3. Sanskrit Name- Bakasana. Baka means crane in Sanskrit and sana means pose. The pose gets its name from the way the body looks like a crane wading in a pond.
4. English Name- Crane pose or crow balance
5a.
1. Start by standing in Tadasana.
2. Squat down with feet a couple of inches apart.
3. Put thighs against the sides of the torso.
4. Exhale and put your weight onto your arms by leaning forward.
5. Squeeze the legs against the arm in order to create the final phase of the form.
6. Hold for about 20 seconds- 1 minute to get a workout.
7. In order to get out, relax the legs to stop the squeezing and put your feet down.
5b. To get into the posture it's essential that one must release and soften the neck, shoulders, and back. It's important to contract the abdominal muscles to get a strong core that gives a strong foundation. The triceps should work hard to create stability for balance while in the pose. The trapezius and latissimus dorsi will be used to also help keep the posture steady.
6.Bakasana works out the arms, wrists, hands, shoulders by strengthening them. it also helps to tone the abdominal muscles due to its core workout. It stretches out the back and also the groin. Bakasana helps an individual to gain balance and strength to do a handstand. The pose also helps aid digestion and flushes abdominal muscles to be refilled with reoxygenated blood.
7. I feel as if my triceps or arm muscles are a bit weak for this exercise. I feel that this exercise requires very strong triceps as I commonly am shaking while holding the pose. It might also be because my wrists lack muscle while my back is not flexible at all. Besides muscle feelings, I feel somewhat relaxed in terms of my mind because I have to keep peace of mind in order to keep the posture going or else I'll lose my physical balance.
8. Reference- http://www.afterthemasters.org/web_documents/bakasana.htm This website gave me insight as to the execution of the posture and the benefits of it. The website also helped me comprehend why Bakasana is called crane pose (which is because people look like a crane wading in a pond). It also helped me realize the muscles responsible for the posture and the alignment-actions.
